Cast Cattle- More meat and weight present in the cast ring today, with prices soaring and less feeding sorts forward. WJ&AS Bowes & Sons of Stainton Hill House Farm, topped with a tremendous Limousin cow soaring to today’s top ranks making 382ppk and £2731. Native breeds also proving a strong trade, closely following the continental breeds with 366ppk was G&JH Tomlinson & Son, Sunniside Farm, with a superb Angus, whilst W&R Kemp & Son of Wigdon Walls Farm, reached 350ppk with a Hereford. Top Priced Friesian today went to Little Newsham Farms, making 240ppk & £1624 and R&A Chapman of Easby Grange reaching 234ppk & £1787. Bull trade was just as sharp, with a Blonde from W&OM Jackson & Son, Rose Hill Farm, that reached a top of 314ppk & £2446, whilst AP Hodgson Farm LTD, Priory farm, followed with an Angus at 256ppk & £1868

Store Cattle- Yet another buoyant trade for store cattle, as the plainer cattle dearer, smaller cattle exceptional and stronger sorts desired. A tremendous run of Angus’ from Peter and Barbra Needham, Woolhouse Farm, led the way topping at £2520 with bullocks, whilst the heifers also topped within their section at £2460. J&MJ Walton of West Shotton Farm, reached £2340 with a Limousin Bullock, whilst K Norman Farms topped at £2280 with a fantastic run of strong bullocks, regularly trading between £2000 and £2200 throughout. Tim Denham of Dent Gate, showed a terrific run of Shorthorn Bullocks, topping at £2140. MH Hodgson from East Greystones reached £2300 with a British Blue Heifer, followed by J Dent, East Farm, with a strong Parthenais Heifer which made £2110. RN Foord & Son, Hill Top Farm, had three heifers averaging over £2000. Herefords led the way within the bull section, topping at £2260 from Williamson, Heugh Farm, whilst AP Taylor of Ox Close Farm, also made £2120. Limousin Bulls topped at £2140 from HE Jewitt, Lodge Farm and Gerard Te-Lintelo reached heights of £1940 with a superb run of Shorthorns.
Overall yet another terrific day of trading at Darlington, with all sorts and qualities in demand.

Store Lambs:
Round once again is young handlers week with the store sheep judging being left in the very capable hands of Mr R Rooke Rye House, who found his overall champion from class 1 fro Edward Cass with a super Beltex lamb, in a very generous gesture Edward very kindly donated all of proceeds from his lamb to The Great North Air Ambulance, this lamb later sold for the day stop price of £210 and was purchased by weekly supporter of DFAM Peter Tindale, Preston Tillery. Reserve overall champion lamb from from Jack Sewell who is no stranger 1 to prizes or 2 to the ring here at Darlington either show of selling weekly here. A super lamb which hit a top of £185. Best turned out also came from the expert hand of Jack Sewell while the, best showmanship award went to Lucas Cranson.
Following the young handler lambs were the normal run of lambs maybe looking slightly less on paper however the big short keep lambs remaining a very strong trade the long term keep lambs remaining a strong trade, the medium keep lambs slightly easier on the week, this would be as a slight result of the prime trade just levelling slightly towards the end of last week. A tremendous run of lambs from M R Cass which topped at £182 and £174. Short keep lambs from B & J Bainbridge top at £145 while W L Robinson & Partners which hit a top of £142 with others to £140. Mule lambs from T E Dobson seeing highs of £136. Plenty of medium keep Texel and Suffolk bred lambs selling from £105 to £115 with longer keep lambs regularly trading between £85-£100 depending on breeding. Feeding Ewes: Another bumper week of feeding ewes on offer which saw less meat on offer on the whole with them still generating a very good trade best of the ewes comes from N & LL Brown with ewes away to £196. Other continental ewes seeing highs of £178. J V Hodgson & Son topping at £162 with J V & J A Hodgson topping at £158. Plenty of other continental ewes forward regularly selling between the £130 to £160 mark. With the best of the mule feeding ewes topping at £120 with plenty of feeding mules £95 to £105. Very best of the meated horned ewes topping at £120 with the feeding type horned ewes selling between the £50-£70 mark. Breeding Sheep: A handful of breeding sheep forward once again with top of the day highlights going to the shearlings from C A & J G Skidmore with Texel X to £265 with others to follow at £260. Pick of the day for many would be a super run of 4 crop ewes from Ainsty Farms Direct, with Scotch half bred ewes topping at £175 while Suffolk X ewes from the very same good home sold to £208. More could have been sold to vendors advantage. Breeding sheep are needed to meet buyer demand.
