Sincere thanks go to Elaine Sedgewick of Long Myers Farm, Durham for expertly undertaking the judging duties this morning. Thanks also go to our collective of annual sponsors who are displayed at the ringside fifty-two weeks of the year. Claiming the championship rosette was a beautiful Limousin heifer from CW Gray, Low Hall, Amble whilst the reserve went to budding young livestock enthusiast Jack Sewell of Knavesmire Fram with his perfectly presented British Blue steer. Further red rosette winners included the Burns family who had travelled up from Leicestershire, regular supporter Alastair Ward of Frosterley, CN Whitaker of High Etherley and May Tree Farm, Bishopton. A full run down of the winners and prices appears below.

Cast Cows/OTM – More forward this week and the cow trade remained very buoyant with both finishers and wholesale outlets bidding freely as the green market status remains absolutely vital for vendors looking to maximise their cow returns. The sale averaged 265ppk and £1735. A super sale materialised for the excellent Limousin’s of CW Jackson, Woodend Farm who produced our top per kilo at 400 pence with a smart OTM heifer and also our top cow in the lump, a marvellous 10-year-old selling for 370ppk and £2786. A tidy Limousin heifer from SJ Saville & Sons, Ravenhill impressed at 390ppk as did a super 38-month-old Aberdeen Angus heifer from G & JH Tomlinson, Sunniside at 352ppk and £2675 to top the natives. A few bulls forward this week were an eclectic mix, the Limousin’s led the way as an OTM from AP Martin & Son, Manor Farm impressed at 358ppk but a cracking 6-year-old from AC Simpson & Son, McNeil Farm arguably overshadowed the rest when he added up to £3508.
