Junior Handlers Super Singles
Derived from our previous show and sale of single butcher’s lambs DfAM were today delighted to launch a siter event for our next generation of store lamb producers. These events are a wonderful showcase for our talented youngsters and we are pleased to report that an excellent morning was enjoyed by allcomers. Firstly, we would like to thank our judge today Joanna Andrews for her time, expert opinion and for conducting a thoroughly professional job. Secondly our wonderful sponsors, without whom the extraordinary prize fund would not be available to these fine young folk; special thanks go to Dots Café, H.H.Smith & Son, Brockhills of Yorkshire, Vicky Anderson Training, NFU Mutual Durham Districts, Swale Vets, S&A Fabrications, Stokesley Show, David Chapman Property & Garden Maintainence, Allflex Livestock Intelegence, Thornton Breakers, Dugdale Nutrition, C&A Embroidery, Vickers & Barrass Chartered Surveyors, Grahams Logs, Stoneygate Farm Shop & Café, Agrisource Farm Machinery, East Oakley Servicing & Repairs, Bennison Groundworks, Hutchinson Sheep Shearing.
The show classes were dominated by eighteen-year-old Harry Askwith of Crook who scooped three of the four first prizes, from these he took the Champion sash with his Beltex sired lamb and the reserve with his Texel; Harry was also awarded the special £50 prize for best turned-out lamb. Nine-year-old Freddie Dodsworth of Nenthead claimed the £50 award for best showmanship with his Suffolk crossed ewe lamb, the same lamb was earlier first in the Suffolk class narrowly beating her twin sister held by eight-year-old Patrick Dodsworth.
All the youngsters deserve huge credit for putting forward a terrific display of sheep, the trade for their lambs was excellent and thanks also go to the buyers who ensured that the next generation had themselves a day to remember.
