Bulls – A mixed show forward, very few top-end bulls on offer – trade for them was easier, and commercial bulls a penny or 2 dearer on the week, GK KN & GJ Hird, Meadow View sold the top 2 ppk, both Limousins to Worsley Wholesale Meats for 300ppk & £2145 & £1977. The Lead Grossing Bull was a Limousin sold by TN Callender, Ox Eye Farm for £2283 to Worsley Wholesale Meats. The Halls of Kilton Hall fared best of the dairy at 221ppk & £1356, and CH& SE Armstrong Middle Moor Farm sold the top price native, an Angus for 249ppk & £1876, while a consignment from over the border of 9 Stabiliser from D Robertson, Auchterarder sold to an average of 266ppk & £1851.

Clean Cattle – Depleted numbers this week, and a lot of weight about, trade on the other hand was flying high with Heifers averaging 311ppk & Steers 275ppk. Top price was 351ppk & £1895 for a Limousin Heifer sold by R Hirst Neasham Grange. The highest grossing clean beast was a wonderful 801KG Limousin Heifer sold by JE Suddes & Son, Rowley Farm to John Penny & Sons, Rawdon, she fell under the hammer for 330ppk totalling an eyewatering £2643. I Marshall & SDons, Hope House Farm led the way in the steer section with a good run of Limousins selling to 318ppk & £2124.

Prime Lambs – Numbers hard come by which is inevitable with the weather of recent days but ‘that’s life’, lambs on the whole just seeing a slight lift in trade for the best fed lambs, with the order of the day meat and weight which saw the heavy weighted and heavy fleshed lambs take all of the top prices both pounds per head and pence per kilo with top of the day going to J C Simpson, Caldwell at £182 with others from the same home to £178 and £173. Hard on the heels of John were Cole Hill, with heavies away to £180 and £178. Peter brown in amongst the mix again at £175 while M & A Gaskin seeing highs of £172 along with Anna Herbert to the same home. Pence per kilo ruled by one with J C Simpson seeing highs of 402p/kg with others to 397,395,390 ppk. Peter Tindale not to be out done seeing a top of 378ppk with K & PM Lough seeing highs of 377ppk shared with J E Suddes & Son. Meat remains key in the prime section to achieve the top prices.

Cast Sheep- A larger show of numbers and again trade holding firm with the bigger ewes a little easier to place. It must be said that included in the averages are everything from bonny Beltex and texels down to the swale ewes. Top of the day going to DG & PD Ayre with ewes to £180. JA & A Herbert seeing a high for their run of £160 and J C Simpson among the top prices again to £150. JG Hall seeing highs of £150 along with R S Hall & Sons and I & A Holmes. Best of the mules would be seen selling to £110. Meat is key in the ewes to hit the top prices, leaner grazing type cast ewes are best, marketed with us on a Monday.
