Cast Cattle/OTM – The fast trade rolls on as arguably a plainer show still managed to average 194ppk and £1353 per head. Top per kilo at a super 306 pence was a smart OTM Limousin heifer from T W Clark & Son, Frankland Farm; following her at 304ppk was arguably the star turn of the day as a stunning 34-month-old Limousin bull from JL & JA Sunter, Downholme Manor tipped the scales to 1085kg and in doing so amassed a monumental gross value of £3298. The stand out older cow this week was a brilliant British Blue which hailed from G Sedgewick, Ricknall Grange and sold for a healthy 260ppk and £2090. Top of the natives was a lovely Aberdeen Angus OTM heifer from Jack Henshaw, Mainsgill Farm when she sold at 292ppk and £2061 whilst dairy cow trade was led by a 5-year-old Montbeliarde from J E Holliday & Son, Woodland House Farm at £1537 and 188ppk.

Store Cattle – The supersonic store trade easily followed last week’s fabulous fat trade as prices continued to soar. Top this week were a superb pair of 21-month-old Aberdeen Angus heifers from B & B Kitching & Son, Elstob Cottage Farm when they sold for a marvellous £1860 apiece. Next in line at £1810 was our top steer, a 20-month-old Hereford from G L & M Steel, Bunker Hill Farm which was in turn closely followed by a great pair of Charolais steers from Rose A Farms, Low Houselop Farm at £1800. Not large numbers of younger cattle on offer this week however mention must go to a great pen of 11-month-old Limousin’s from J C Thwaite & Son, Crag Hill Farm which topped at £1590 with others to £1560 and £1500. British Blonde’s led the way in the young bulls as a superb trio from G Corner, Rye Close Farm set the bar high selling two at £1680 and one at £1650.

Store Sheep – The brake pedal on the sheep trade isn’t working as the store vendors enjoyed another marvellous day’s trading to see the sale average return at £105.64. Topping the day at a marvellous £146 was the pick from a super run from A W Dixon, West Heddon Farm; the same good home followed at £143 and £141 to see the Northumberland based firms forty-two crackers average a pleasing £131.79. The eighty Mule lambs included today averaged an excellent £98.17 to a top of £102 from N Medd & Son, West Whorley Hill whilst Suffolk’s sold to £127 and Blue Faced Leicester’s to £116. Feeding ewes were also in fine form and sold to a top of £190 from B Lowson, Podge Hole with a strapping Texel. Mule ewes topped at £119 from J R Mann, High Goosepool whilst some excellent Blackface from B & R Dixon, Rigg Hall also impressed selling to a top of £95 and an average of £79.78.
