Darlington Farmers Auction Mart held their weekly sale of cast cattle, store and breeding stock on Monday 9th June 2025. Forward were 212 cattle and 4 pigs.

Cast Cattle – A tidy show met an improved trade to see the sale average a very credible 263ppk and £1869 per head. A superb 38-month-old Limousin heifer from W J & A S Bowes & Sons, Stainton Hill House led the females when she sold for 340ppk and £2893. Following at 338ppk was another excellent Limousin OTM heifer, this one from J A & U M Fawcett, Manor House whilst the top older cow was also a Limousin which hailed from Hughes Bros Farms, Sockburn Hall and sold for 320ppk. The native breeds were well represented this week with some quality Aberdeen Angus OTM heifers topping at 326ppk and £2563 whilst a smart run of Hereford’s peaked at 320ppk and £2195 from W & R Kemp & Son, Wigdon Walls Farm. On to the bulls, a great offering with seven breeds represented; top per kilo at 342 pence was a 36-month-old Beef Shorthorn from F Hare & Sons, Trees Farm whilst the top price in the lump was a thumping 1191kg Limousin from R G Richardson, East Farm at £3501.

Breeding & Store Cattle – Proceedings began with a handful of cows and calves which continued in the same fast fashion we witnessed last week; top spot went to a 5-year-old Simmental cow with a 1-month-old Charolais heifer calf at foot from J W Richardson, Railway Terrace when she sold for £2450. The feeding bulls continued in great form with £2000 and beyond achieved seven times. Top of the pile at £2320 was an excellent 15-month-old Limousin from J & E M Lawson, Harpington Hill, the same good home then followed with another Limousin at £2280 and a Beef Shorthorn at £2210 whilst a smart pen from D W Humphrey, Capon Hall are well worthy of mention topping at £2120. The store cattle continue at remarkable levels; an unwavering confidence remains amongst the buyers of steers and heifers. Top of the day at £2400 was a stunning 34-month-old Limousin heifer from J & F Hartley & Sons, Low Shipley Farm. Top of the steers at £2320 was an excellent 16-month-old Limousin cross from G S Bainbridge, Ketton Lodge, following at £2280 were two vendors as a strong dairy crossed British Blue from M H Hodgson, East Greystones matched our top native breed, a terrific Aberdeen Angus from P Featherstone, Allendale Farm. Plenty of life apparent in the yearlings as the grazing sorts remain in demand, top of the youngsters this week were D G & P D Ayre, Roger Moor with three (12m) Limousin steers at £1900 and also S Iceton, West Newhouse with a pair of (12m) Limousin heifers at £1840.
