Next in line at £2650 was a lovely 19-month-old Parthenais steer, this one was the pick of a great run from D Robson & Sons, Merryshields Farm as a marvellous run of thirteen steers and heifers from this prolific home averaged £2210. Earlier in the day a delightful 8-year-old Limousin cow with a 2-month-old heifer calf from L Booton, Manor Farm sold well at £2700 and a buoyant bull trade was topped at £2360 by a cracking Limousin from AJ Marr & Son, Old Ravensworth Farm.

Store Sheep – Less lambs around and a distinct shortage of the best quality, a drop in numbers is certainly justified as the monsoon season hit the region this weekend. The sale averaged a pleasing £115.27 as all creeds and colours remain highly sought after. Topping the day at £145 was a smart Dutch Spotted lamb from PA Thompson, Stanhope Road, behind him a whole host of the stronger sorts sold £130 to £140, healthy runners £110 to £130 and only the very small and a few tup lambs traded under £100. Top of the Mule lambs this week were thirty-two from GM & V Bayles, Haithwaite Farm at £118 whilst horned lambs saw a pen of thirteen Rough Fell from W Brass & Sons, Low Broom Flats sell for £110 with Swaledale lambs selling to a high of £76.
Feeding ewes were fabulous again as a below par offering of quality somehow still managed a three-figure average. Top of the day at £230 was an excellent Texel ewe from C Everitt, Jollybody Farm, the same good feeding then followed with a pair at £212. Lowland ewes typically traded £140 to £170, over 100 Mule ewes averaged £102 and sold to a top of £156 from RRC Andrew, Home Farm and a splendid Swaledale trade saw eighty forward average £69.10 and sell to a staggering top of £108 for five from K Sayer, Scotland Farm.
