Store Cattle – On rumbles the store ring with numbers remaining well ahead on the year as the lack of grazing is potentially bringing them forward early. The low grain prices are thankfully ensuring that the trade continues in good order for those somewhat backed in to a corner and needing to sell, arguably a smidgen easier however still very competitive against any other outlet. A quality quintet of stretchy Charolais steers from B&L Robson, Gawen House led the way today when they sold for £2370 apiece. Next in line at £2300 was a smart 29-month-old Limousin steer from W Ramsay & Sons, Blakeley Hill Farm which was duly followed by our top heifer, an 18-month-old Limousin from WO Grix & Partners, Hill Head Farm at £2280. As they did in the cow ring the native breeds fought their corner, top at £2130 was a thumping Hereford heifer from GL & M Steel, Bunker Hill whilst the leading native steer at £2080 was an Aberdeen Angus from A Todd, Kirby Knowle. Top of the young bulls at £1740 was a stretchy 12-month-old Charolais from WT Hall, Humber Hill.

Store Sheep – Dearer again, probably up a fiver with anything and everything forward, a sensational top end mixed themselves with plentiful mules, tups and rare breeds and still left a sale average of £102.82. A trio of wonderful Beltex lambs from J Musgrave, Manor Farm led the way when they sold for a tremendous £168, following at £161 were the best four from a great run shown by MR Cass, Beacon Farm. The two mentioned top vendors shared many of the highlights as the marvellous twenty-six from Manor Farm averaged £147.64 and a brilliant fifty-five from Beacon levelled at £142.51. Just shy of two-hundred Mule lambs this week averaged a pleasing £91.32, top at £119 was a strong single from J Featherstone, Thornley Park with thirty-five from DM & PM Nelson & Sons, Skelding Grange next at £111 and fifteen from KT Anderson & Son, Hepple Hill following at £109.
