Cast Cattle – The cow trade bounds along nicely with a sale average of £1341 and 193 pence per kilo, arguably very slightly easier than of late however far, far away from the doom mongering being touted around by our deadweight adversaries at the moment. A maiden voyage to Darlington for Messrs D S Raeburn, Pressock Farm, Guthrie, Forfar proved successful when they dominated the native breed prices with their excellent Aberdeen Angus cows and in doing so helped themselves to the top gross valued cow of the day at £2091. Bidding surpassed 200 pence on seventeen occasions, pick of the females was a shapely 4-year-old British Blue cow from C Bell, The Pry, Forest-in-Teesdale when she sold for 252 pence. The top price of the day went to a stunning 41-month-old British Blue bull from J R Rukin, Park Lodge, Keld when he sold for a whopping 280ppk and £2427; also, well worthy of mention was a thumping 1269kg Beef Shorthorn bull from C & J C Stephenson, Pikestone, Woodland which added up nicely to £2322. Final mention this week goes to the milking cow trade, the pick today was a fleshy 6-year-old from J D & I W Sayer & Tallantire which sold for 188ppk and £1361.

Store & Breeding Cattle – A typical June show with a real bag of dolly mixtures in attendance, trade continues to roll along nicely with returns excellent for all classes. A tidy 6-year-old Limousin cow with her 1-month-old British Blue crossed heifer calf at foot began proceedings when selling well for I Newton & Son, Howden-le-Wear at £1750. Young bull trade appears fabulous, pick of the pack was a well grown 13-month-old Simmental from W O Grix & Partners, Morpeth when he sold for £1540; strong Hereford’s from J H & C Ltd, Newlands Hall plus yearling Charolais and Simmental bulls from E Parsons, Newstead Farm all impressed when reaching £1470. Top of the heifers this week was a fantastic 32-month-old British Blue from regular sellers D G & P D Ayre of Roger Moor Farm when she sold for an incredible £1625, the steer trade of the week belonged to a very smart 12-month-old Limousin from N B & R Hird, Gillfield, Romaldkirk which sold for £1445.
