Darlington Farmers Auction Mart held their weekly sale of cast cattle, store and breeding stock on Monday 8th July 2024. Forward were 257 Cattle.

Cast Cows

This weeks offering of cast cows finds a new gear on the trade express with cows on the week looking dearer again, slightly less meat on offer would be the general remarks of the day also, with vendors wondering where it’ll end. Pick of the day goes to the cast bulls leading the way in the lump with a Simmental bull from J Richmond topping the day at £2290.08, not far behind with a super Shorthorn from FP & IM Jefferson seeing a high of £1935.36. Pick of the cows came in the form of a pure limousine cow from Foxton Livestock still set the days highs of £1931 while following close behind  with a Blue sired cow A & K Hall at £1771 and JA & UM Fawcett to £1738. Pence per kilo topping for D A Gill at 246p/kg while hard on the tail were N L Dalton at 236ppk with A & MJ Henshaw behind at 228ppk. Averages to rival anywhere with an all in sale average of 194p/kg and £1255 per head with plenty of dairy cows mixed throughout the sale.

Store Cattle

Kicking the day off saw cows and calves first through the ring and leading the trade were R B Watson with a super British Blue cow with Limousin sired calf at foot topping at £1920 with another from the same good home to follow at £1850. A run of heifers and calves from D Walker saw a top of £1620 with others to £1450 and £1420. A small sample of stirks saw a top for KB & S Roche with Angus heifers away to £450 and others to £430.

Store cattle met with a ring full of buyers all looking to secure one or two to top pens up which saw the highlight of the trade go to W Walker & Sons with cattle away to £1555. Close behind with a  super blue sired heifer D R Smith topping at £1535 with others from the same home to £1515 and £1505. Making the journey from north saw W D Allen, Alnwick top with Angus bulls at £1525 with others to £1495. Angus from Y Kettle saw a super trade for steers at £1455. Of the continental offering pick of the day for a super run of yearly type cattle saw F Ward, Rogerley Hall top at £1495 with other pens to follow at £1445 and £1435. J P Phelan saw a top for Herefords at £1395 with plenty more forward type cattle regularly £1200-£1300 yearling cattle for the best end £1000-£1100.
