Cast Cattle- What an extraordinary trade for geld cattle today, on fire and showing no signs of stopping. A slightly lesser show of numbers and quality compared to last week, however the trade still hot and did not disappoint. Top price of the day goes to JE Jordon & Son, The Brocks, with a fantastic 36-month-old Limousin cow making a terrific £2917 and 398ppk, and another Limousin from this good home selling to £2891. Following was GK KN&GJ Hird, Meadow View, reaching £2744 or 350ppk with another at £1991. I Spedding, Harelaw Farm, reached 356ppk, whilst JA&UM Fawcett, Manor Farm, topped at 352ppk. Friesian cows topped at 254ppk and £2113 from FS Sturrock & Sons, Home Farm.

Store Cattle- Exceptional is the only word to describe today’s store cattle trade. A fantastic show of quality cattle was put forward for the Mid-March Extravaganza show & sale, with many thanks going to Miss Katrina Donaldson of York, for doing a fantastic job as our judge this morning. Bringing the heat to the show ring this morning was our champion, which deservingly went to Nick & Kayley Gill of Moorey Lea, with a quality 11-month-old British Blue Heifer, reaching £2100. Reserve Champion went to Robbie & Wayne Dalton of West End Farm, with a lovely 10-month-old Limousin steer, which made £2120.
With many vendors leaving DfAM with a smile on their face, top price of the day goes to FH Hutchinson, White House Farm, with a two tremendous Limousin Heifers, reaching £2660. Following very closely was TW West of Picket Howe Farm, with a heifer making £2320, with another at £2300. Again, with the heifers, £2300 was reached twice by Wilkinson & Son, Carrsides.
Topping the steer section was RL Dent, Mount Pleasant Farm, with two at £2280. tying in second highest place within the steer section was T Metcalfe & Son, Usha Gap and WA Wardman LTD, Thrushwood Farm, both reaching £2200. Finally, AP&E Proctor, Hillcrest, had a British Blue Steer at £2180.
Bulls topped at a high of £2550, with a British Blue from BR Lawson, Buddle House Farm, who was followed by Wilkinson & Son, Carrsides, with a consignment of Simmental bulls making £1940. JA&UM Fawcett, Manor Farm had a Limousin bull which made £1800.

Store Hoggs- As the numbers of store sheep begin to wither, the trade remains as strong as ever. With a much smaller number and mixed quality throughout, the sale averaged a fantastic £116.51. First of all, a huge thankyou goes to Mr Steven Love of Hollywell farm, for donating a fantastic Texel x lamb to raise money for The Great North Air Ambulance and Weardale and Teasdale Mountain Rescue, which raised a remarkable total of £1240. Top Price of the day goes to S Love of Hollywell Farm, with a superb run of Continental hoggs to make £166 per head. Again, this good home had hoggs from £148 to £160. Following closely on the leaderboard was SA Braithwaite, Prys House, with Texel Hoggs from £116, reaching a top of £166. Whilst B Willis of Appleton Row, sold a Texel hogg which reached £130.

Fodder- Todays fodder sale saw a straight trade across the board for all aspects. 72x 4ft round bales of barley straw reached £35 per bale, whilst 60x 6 string barley straw bales topped at £30. Silage reached £20 with 60 bales sold, whereas haylage reached £25 for herbal lay 2nd-3rd cut, with 300 bales of haylage sold overall. A larger quantity of fodder wanted fortnightly.
