Store Cattle – An absolute flyer of a trade, the strong cattle are certainly dearer on the week whilst the grazing buyers are now out nibbling at the yearlings which certainly look to be quite some tariff today. Top priced store beast was a strong 19-month-old Aberdeen Angus steer from T H Richardson & Sons, Hamsterley which sold for £1360, of the top 8 steers amazingly 6 were native breeds this week. It seems that a starring roll on ITV’s Vera has done no harm to the breeding and feeding capabilities of the Willey family of Broomfield Farm, Chopwell; it was they who followed up their earlier cow ring success and amazingly produced the top four heifers with the best a 22-month-old Simmental selling for £1340. Young bulls are in high demand, the pick this week were a pair of shapely 13-month-old Limousin’s from F Bainbridge, Willoughby Hall, Baldersdale which sold for an impressive £1305.
