The lamb trade express still continues to romp forward through into the 2nd week of July with not only the temperature hotting up nationally but also the lamb trade yet again dishing out the card of surprise, with many vendors who lambed early very close to finishing this years sales and the ones just starting, reaping the rewards of some buoyancy in the sheep job. Numbers easier found this year compared with the same week the previous year however the price making this slightly easier. Lambs will certainly be a country mile ahead of this week last year, with many making the journey back from Yorkshire Show to draw lambs for todays sale. Pick of the day and top price goes to none other than John Simpson, Caldwell when a 58kg lamb rang the sale bell at £221, Peter Brown not to be out done topping at £220 while a super run of meat turned out by Graham for AWSM Farms saw tops of £218 and £214. S E Whiteford hitting a top of £210 while I & A Holmes, T W & P T Moss, W K M M Lamb, D R Smith and Colehill Farms all broke the £200 barrier. A first draw for P D Shepherd followed very closely at £199 while big heavy fed lambs 46kg plus remaining a very good trade and very easily placed.
Handier weighted lambs would see a big increase on the week and look well in demand with a couple of new vendors mixed in amongst the averages with some super lambs throughout. Top of the day goes to D L & D Lovegreen at 441.9ppk while close behind were a tremendous run of fed lambs from H T Davies & Partners topped at 440ppk, 434ppk and 425ppk. D Carr & Son among the top spots also with highs of 422ppk and P R & V Barlow on the southern express hitting tops of 418ppk. Handy weighted lambs a nice trade across the board. It must be reminded that scales are only a guide to weight and not condition. Lambs are required weekly to meet buyer demand, please do not hesitate to contact one of the team to discuss marketing options.
