Charity Hats – After yesterday’s fabulous fund raising for Darlington Mind we were once again humbled today as the DFAM faithful dug deep for this terrific charity. The bespoke hats kindly donated to us by Cotton Eye Sew, Kirkby Stephen were once again in high demand as the seven today raised £1040, added to yesterdays total we have raised £1955 with half a dozen hats left for Thursday’s auction. Thanks must also go to all who have furnished the charity bucket which is always doing the DFAM rounds.
Show Classes – Undoubtedly the finest show of quality and depth ever witnessed here in Darlington, a high standard of stock and indeed presentation from many, our splendid vendors certainly tested our judges, both of whom carried out their mornings duties with impeccable skill and efficiency. The unbelievable sponsorship accumulated certainly seemed to galvanise the vendors in to going that extra mile and to all our sponsors we are truly grateful. The flagship class at this annual fixture is so often the Mule gimmer lambs and a fantastic offering appeared in front of Driffield’s Mr Ian Swallow; picked as the winners were 10 absolutely superb North of England Mules from J B Luck, Milestone House, Bowes. Taking the honours in the other breed ewe lamb class were a pen of beautiful Texel’s from T Common & Son, Low Ardley, Hexham.
The shearling ewes forward to show today would stand proud in any auction across the land, a tricky task then for Mrs Elaine Dent of Northfield Farms who decided on a lovely pen from C Bell, The Pry, Forest-in-Teasdale in the Mule class; next up some shapely Beltex crosses shown by P J Tindale, Paradise Farm, Shadforth which took the Other Breed class. In all departments today the winners could have come from many different corners and congratulations must not only go to the winners but to all who took part.
