Cast Cows & OTM

Today’s Cast Cattle trade has been nothing short of stratospheric, granted there was some exceptional quality forward but feeding & dairy cows were also dearer on the week. A monumental lead grossing price of £4698 for an outstanding British Blue bull from AS&SM Kemp & Son Ltd, was overall top price today, with the same home also making £3758 with a cracking Limousin bull. Top price cow today goes to M Shepherd of Fulthorpe Farm, with a terrific Limousin cow reaching £3114. Following was TN Callender of Ox Eye Farm, with an Angus cow at £2673. Friesian Cows topped at £1932 from AR&C Booth & Son, Village Farm. Overall, the geld cow ring was on fire today at DfAM, with more stock wanted weekly.

Store Cattle – The recent warm spell of weather may have eased in the last couple of days but things were definitely hotting up around the store cattle ring with all types very much in demand, trade was once again on the increase.

A Small but quality show of Store Bulls forward, with the leading entry coming courtesy of The Proctor Family from Zwarland Old Hall. They made the trip down the A1 from Morpeth with 5 outstanding 10-month-old Limousins selling to a top price of £1980 and an average of £1934. 2 Angus Steers sold by The Needhams of Woolhouse Farm Barnard Castle sold to an unsurpassed £2200, they were closely followed by 2 Limousins forward by DM&PM Nelson & Sons, Skelding Grange. DR Smith of East Roughlea Farm, Ferryhill was top of the shop in the females with his Angus heifer going under the hammer for £2190. The Andersons, Dalton Grange took second place with a Charolais Heifer at £2050 part of a run of 7 Dairy Bred Heifers selling to an average of £1970.

Rearing Calves- A much younger show of calves all round today, however trade still booming. Top price calf of the day went to J Fletcher of East Murton Farm, with a shapely Limousin bull calf making £950, whilst the same home had another Limousin bull at £850. AW Sanderson, East Holling Carr Farm, sold a Saler bull calf that reached £750. British Blue bulls topped at £630 from JT Forster & Son, Killerby Farm, whilst the same home topped in the Simmental section at £660. Inra95 bulls reached £630 from Kitchings of Summerfield, and Angus bulls reached £740 from CR McLaren, Grindon Grange.

British Blue heifers topped at £600 from JT Forster & Son, whilst Angus heifers reached the same top price at £600 from G Thompson & Sons, Softley Farm. Inra95 heifers from Kitchings of Summerfield topped at £440.

Store Lambs- A handful of store lambs on offer today, ahead of next weeks opening sale. Topping at £150 was a texel x lamb from T Hodges, Partridge Hall. 600 lambs already entered for next week’s opening sale. Entries are still open until Wednesday 15th.
