Cast Cattle – Another absolute flyer with a varied show of cows averaging 151 pence per kilo and no less than a dozen stock bulls levelled up at an incredible 165ppk and £1608. Top of the females this week was a wonderful 4 year old Limousin which made its way over the Pennines from regular raiders P J & E S Rogerson, Great Asby and sold for 228 pence per kilo, she was chased hard by another half dozen all beyond 200 pence. The top two gross valued cows which sold either side of £1700 both came from W J & A S Bowes & Sons, Great Stainton, the pick of them a fleshy 5 year old Limousin at an impressive £1722. To the stock bulls and a truly magical trade, top of the tree a brut from S C Barron, Maunby who’s 5 year old Charolais reached £2246 whilst the best two Limousin’s from K & M M Henderson, Witton-le-Wear and M E & C M Bell, Forest-in-Teesdale both sold over £1900 with the Teesdale beauty up as high as 206 pence per kilo. The bull highlights were certainly plentiful…. Dexter’s to £753 (120ppk) – Shorthorn’s to £1615 (184ppk) – Stabiliser’s to £1638 (150ppk) – Aberdeen Angus to £1785 (158ppk)– Bazadaise to £1848 (204ppk) – Limousin to £1942 (206ppk) – Charolais to £2246 (178ppk).
To the parlour princesses now, as always they played their part and this week’s topper is well worthy of her name in lights, an exceptional black and white from F S Sturrock & Sons, Elwick sold for 166 pence per kilo and a massive £1484.

Store Cattle – If England could produce half the firepower our store cattle buyers are armed with they’d be a certainty to win the ongoing Euro’s; another magnificent trade throughout as the beef trade continues in top gear. Top price of the day went to a shapely pure Limousin yearling bull from W I Suddes & Son, Cornsay Village when he sold for £1285, the bull trade in general looked hot from top to bottom. Proof that regular sellers T T Hall & Son of Church Farm, Evenwood can lead the charge with or without their glamorous assistant was cemented today as they topped the sale at £1220 with a lovely 13 month old Aberdeen Angus heifer. The steer trade this week was led by a smart 14 month old Limousin from R G & G Rutter of Hamsterley as he sold for £1100, the fabulous trade for all classes was underlined with impressive runs from several consignors, away from the stand out individuals some nice runs of well grown dairy X Aberdeen Angus heifers from M J Hutchinson, Wolviston and dairy breed bullocks from A Wilson, Easington both sold time and time again between £1000 and £1100.
