Breeding Rams – The tup tally for DFAM this season increases nicely as a packed ring ensured another fine trade, no centre records but another pleasing clearance rate achieved, the bigger stretchy tups in particular are in high demand as the buyers look to add weight to their prime lamb production. Topping the sale was a handsome Suffolk Shearling from M T Bulmer, Wellfield House, Salton which sold for 800 Guineas; another from the Bulmer pen followed close behind at 720 Guineas just ahead of our leading lamb a superstar Texel from T Nesbitt & Son, Alwent Hall at 700 Guineas.

Breeding Sheep – Plenty of life in the shepherds seeking replacements, the sheep ring continues to buzz. Impressing on this occasion were North of England Mule Shearlings from G H & R G Stobbs, Wolsingham which sold for £200 and £190. Top of the Texel shearlings were also £200 as a nice pen from M Navazi, Shildon sold well and were just ahead of some lovely Cheviot Mule shearlings once again from Messrs Stobbs, Wolsingham which saw the 5 pens of 10 all sell between £180 and £195. Texel’s again from M Navazi led the gimmer lambs at £142, they were a smidgen ahead of some lovely Charollais crossed Beltex from G Hodgson, Eastgate at £140. Finally the breeding ewes and most unusually our top price went to a pen of Shropshire’s, the successful vendors receiving £160 per head were P G & J Bond, Sacriston.
