Darlington Farmers Auction Mart held a sale of prime sheep and cast ewes on Monday 23rd May 2022. Forward were 388 head of sheep.

223 New Season Lambs sold to 382ppk or £160
77 Prime Hoggs sold to 270ppk or £134
88 Cast Ewes & Rams sold to £195

DUE TO THE NBA BEEF EXPO EVENT HERE IN DARLINGTON MART THE THURSDAY SHEEP SALE WAS BROUGHT FORWARD TO MONDAY AFTERNOON, DUE TO THE QUEENS JUBILEE THE SAME ARRANGEMENT WILL BE IN PLACE NEXT WEEK, PRIME CATTLE REMAIN A THURSDAY FIXTURE THIS WEEK WITH NO SALE OF ANY KIND ON THE JUBILEE THURSDAY BANK HOLIDAY.

Prime Sheep – Plenty of demand for all classes, in fact some real steam on at times as the spring lambs averaged a weighed straight 323ppk and £138. Top price per kilo went to a superb 41kg Texel lamb from W Kirk & Sons, Bullmire Farm when it sold for (£157) 382 pence. Top gross value LAMBS went to the consistent Caldwell cavalier Mr J C Simpson, Hill Top East with a trio of 47kg lambs selling for £160. Hogg trade remains good although really not many forward today, still good results for the fleshier types, £120 to £135 is very achievable.

Cast Ewes & Rams – Very dear, just a moderate show averaged over £100 which given the goods on offer was an absolute king’s ransom. Anna Pennell, Home Farm led the way at £195 with a strong Texel ewe but in reality, it was the plain ewes which sold at incredible levels, the dearest for some time.
