The Cast Cow trade was absolutely electric in Darlington today!!! – with some of the very best cows forward to some plainer old servants – no matter what weight, age or condition, never has the geld cow trade been so dear, returning an overall average of 160ppk & £1005 per head. With no less than 12 separate buyers, there really is no better place or time to sell.
The day’s top price ppk & lead grossing cow was a 47mth British Blue consigned by by local farmer Andrew Bentham, Fletcher Hill Farm she sold for a cracking 238ppk & realised a whopping £1956. A lovely run of 4 Pure Limousins sold by WI Suddes & Son, South Farm were the next best with an average of 225pp & £1506. JD&IW Sayer& Tallantire, Town Farm, Gayles took the honours in the dairy section with their 9-year-old Friesian Cow totting up to a very impressive £1104. Its not only the lasses that are in demand, the lads were very much so too, with 3 stock bulls of different breeds selling up to nearly £1700.

Store Cattle – With the weekend’s temperature rising, the store cattle trade was boiling over once more. The continued rise in prices in the fat cattle ring seems to have instilled confidence into purchasers once more, and the caution being shown of late has well and truly disappeared. Due to the current warm weather conditions – a smaller show of store cattle forward, but amongst the entries a fair bit of quality. JS Foster & Son, West End Farm Bowes ‘did the double’ with a Limousin steer selling for £1360 and just a fiver behind at £1355 a Limousin Heifer. Regular local vendors John & Christine Hall, Church Farm, Evenwood were the runners up with 2 magnificent Limousin Heifers which sold for £1325 & £1255. CG Robinson, South View led the way with the store bull trade selling 2 Limousins for over £1300 each, his run of Limousin Heifers which sold to £1205 are also worthy of a mention.
