Cast Cows – A mixed bunch of cows forward for today’s sale, however trade was as sharp as ever with 11 active buyers at the ringside buying on multiple accounts, resulting in an overall average of 155ppk.Top of the tree at 222ppk & grossing £1687 was a wonderful Limousin cow – just 1 of a trio consigned by Oakwood Farms, Kings Lynn which went on to average a very tasty 207ppk & £1626. Best of the rest were 2 Native Breed Heifers sold by Gerard Te-Lintelo, Mayfield Beef Shorthorns which averaged 211ppk & £1392, and 5 continental cows of all ages, which made the trip South by K Sisterson, Newlands Haugh more than worth his while – averaging a very pleasing 175ppk & £1301.

Store Cattle – Week in & week out we seem to be saying the same things ‘can they get any dearer?’ The dearest they have ever been…… etc etc well it seems that yes, they actually can get dearer as was seen once again today. A fantastic batch of 6 Limousin Steers from DW Dresser, Hall Farm led the way with an outstanding average of £1491 a close 2nd was ML Tallentire, South Softley with 10 Angus & Continental Heifers averaging £1349. The Weardale consignment from W Wearmouth, Rosehill & HS Hutchinson, White House Farm sold cattle to average £1207 & £1177 respectively. The outstanding bulls on the day were 4 Charolais sold by K Sisterson, Newlands Haugh to an average of £1450 & 3 Limousins from G Davies, Hecklwood Nuek which averaged £1103. A handful of Cows & Calves sold to a delightful trade with M Eagle, Spalding selling a 7-year-old Limousin Cow with a 3-month Bull calf at foot for £1980. Store Lambs – Numbers starting to come forward, a good show of store lambs would see a trade similar to last weeks. Demand for Shorter Keep Lambs was more than obvious given the current trade for fat sheep. A top price of £112 for a single Suffolk lamb sold by K Raine, Temperence Farm was more than enough to get trade off to a good start resulting in an overall average of almost £80 per head.

Breeding Sheep – As with every other category today the breeding sheep were very much in demand with Texel shearlings consigned by SG Harrison & Son, Setterington selling for £185 & £180 and R Arthur, Hudspeth Farm selling for £170.  A consignment of Mule & Texel Ewes from Mr Easterby, White House sold to a top price of £150 whilst Continental Store Gimmers sold by JW&J Collin, Intake Farm realised £112.
