Bulls – A quality show of bulls forward – trade very similar to last weeks. Joint top honours were shared between 2 completely opposite vendors – local producer LR Welsh & Co, Green Lane Farm, Spennymoor & Lester Knight, Hoe Farm Clenchwarton, Kings Lynn both had bulls that sold to 248ppk realising £1649 & £1492 respectively. The lead grossing bull was a Blonde D’Aquitaine consigned by F&JS Gargett, Westwick Farm which was purchased by Worsley Wholesale Meats for £1917.

Clean Cattle – A good show of clean cattle forward, trade a touch easier on last week although there were still some steers breaking the £2000 barrier, in general most cattle would be slightly steadier. 2 Heifers were sold to a top price of 280ppk, both were sold by 2 of our regular supporters – Brian Walker, Birch Springs & Michael Gilhespy Low House and both were purchased by Darlington Butcher H Taylor & Sons. The lead grossing clean beast was a monster of a steer consigned by Barker Farming Partnership, Tancred Grange which sold for £2043 to SS Meats.

Cast Cattle – Just a handful forward – Top today was a 12-year-old Limousin Stock Bull sold by Elliott, Westfield Farm which sold for a very respectable 182ppk & £1885

Lambs – Just when you thought the lamb trade was easing it goes and springs yet another surprise on everyone – trade today would be 15ppk up on last Thursday returning an overall market average of 268ppk. Top honours today go to local producers and valued supporters of DFAM – John & Ann Herbert, Tees Farm Westwick who’s superb Beltex Lamb topped the market at 305ppk & sold for £122 to Bowland Foods. The lead grossing lambs were a pen of 5 – just 1 lot in an outstanding run of over 60 sold by PR Weaver, Little Manor Farm, Knapthorpe Newark, they realised £159 and were purchased on behalf of Country Valley Foods.

Cast Sheep – Trade easier on the week, especially for the leaner types, which would probably be better suited to a Monday evening sale.
