Bulls – A combination of The Great Yorkshire Show and the wonderful weather which has been gracing the whole of the North this week saw Bull numbers severely reduced – anyone who managed to find the time to bring them were handsomely rewarded for their efforts with an overall market average of 252ppk. Today’s top price of 290ppk was for one of a quartet of Limousin Bulls sold by S&J Dent & Son, Great Burdon Farm which sold to av 288ppk & £1842 per head. AC Simpson & Son, McNeil Farm continued his weekly dominance in the lead grossing section with 3 classy Limousins – the trio all tipped the scales over 800kg and returned an average of 284ppk & £2359 per head. Top of the tree at 225ppk in the Friesians was another regular at the No1 spot, R Hall & Son, Kilton Hall Farm they went home with an average of 215ppk & £1364. Only 1 Native breed bull forward – a Shorthorn produced by JK&CE Farming; Blue House Farm sold for 247ppk & £1669. The longest travellers were TD Wight & Sons, Whitrighill Farm St Boswells, they completed the 200-mile round trip with 4 Limousin Bulls that went on to sell for an average of 630kg 271ppk & £1713 per head. Local producers JH&M&NW Brown, West Hartburn Burn Farm 278ppk & £2083 and LR Welsh & Co, Green Lane Farm 277ppk & £1796 were both well out in front with top averages.

Clean Cattle – A similar problem, numerically with the cattle – nowhere near enough forward for the ringside that was full of eager purchasers resulting in Steers averaging 257ppk & Heifers 276ppk. It was The Hodgson Family from The Grange, Summerhouse who prevailed in the race for top price ppk with a 560kg Limousin Heifer- she was purchased by Penny’s of Rawdon for 316ppk & £1769, their run of 8 heifers went on to sell for an average of 605kg per head 288pppk & £1746. RA&BA Ridley & Son Ltd, Dipton Foot Farm led the way with a Limousin Steer for the top grossing beast, selling for £1988 to Worsley Wholesale Foods he was just 1 from a consignment of 9 cattle from Riding Mill that averaged £1814. TD Wight & Sons, Whitrighill found himself at the very top for his Limousin Steer which sold to 298ppk purchased by Worsley Wholesale Meats.

Lambs – As expected, and following the trend nationally lambs were easier on the week, however as with the cattle – numbers were reduced quite considerably and that helped to maintain a healthy average of 304ppk. Heavy weight lambs would be the easiest sold with over 45kgs averaging £147. Medium weight lambs returned at an average of £129 and lightweights £108. Top of the leader board at 383ppk was JA&A Herbert, Tees Farm whose single 42kg lamb realised £161 and was purchased by Country Valley Foods. M&A Gaskin, Hillingdon had a quintet of continental lambs that sold to £169 to Worsley Wholesale Meats, thus heading the lead grossing values.

Cast Ewes & Rams (156) – Yet another good ewe trade this week with a top price of £169 going to T Watson, East Thorn Farm which was purchased by S.S Meats, he was closely followed by AWSM Farms at £168. With the Qurbani festival over, trade has still remained strong this week however this could slightly change in the coming weeks, but current trade keeps us remained positive.
