Prime Bulls (96) – The bull trade remains solid however, for now, the bull beef pan simmers rather than boils over; thus said an average of 208ppk certainly challenges anywhere else in the land. The top four prices per kilo today all hailed from the good home of J Mills & Son, Winwick as the Northamptonshire lorry was fully charged and made the early start more than worthwhile, the run peaked with a smart Limousin at 249ppk. D Richardson & Co led the top gross values, the expert local feeders in fact produced the top 3 values topping at £1990 for an outstanding heavyweight British Blue. Native breeds again were well represented and this weeks sale leader was unusually a British White, the well fleshed bull from A S & S M Kemp, Sherburn sold for 220ppk and £1379. The Holstein Friesian bull trade remains good, the uber consistent R Hall & Son of Kilton Hall Farm were again wearing the yellow jersey as they sold as high as 204ppk and £1381. Clean Cattle (111) – Butchers beast a brilliant trade, the best end of the clean cattle looked a flyer today and certainly rewarded our sellers with one of the best returns we have seen for quite some time. Top of the pops this week was a sensational Limousin heifer from regular sellers W Swinbank & Sons, Caldwell; weighing 563kg she sold for 288 pence per kilo. A further quartet topped 280 pence as the Heslop’s of Fishburn joined the aforementioned Mills consignment, Northants and a fabulous pair from Brian Walker, Dalton-on-Tees at the top end of the scoreboard. To find the leading steer per kilo we head North to two of our most frequent sellers as W J Sott Ltd, Low Leam matched M F Hall, Woodhill Farm at 250ppk. The gross values today belonged to an exemplary run of beast from Barker Farming Partnership, Scorton as they produced an excellent run with steers topping at £1981 and heifers £1793. A great day for the E and U grade cattle as some 17 sold over £1600. Some of the top players are mentioned below:

Prime Lambs (729) – The new season lamb trade motors on, this week last year an SQQ of 256ppk looked impressive, today then the sale average of 325ppk and a whopping £134.70 certainly had most of the vendors smiling. Top of the sale at an impressive £170 were two vendors as Cole Hill Farm, Elwick (who’s 20 lambs averaged £164.05) shared the spoils with Duell Partners, Stockton-on-Tees; close behind was regular top spot contender J C Simpson, Caldwell at £169, the pence per kilo race was, for the third week running, dominated by the sheep king of Caldwell as the Simpson consignment peaked at 375ppk whilst grabbing 7 of the top 10 places on this week’s pence per kilo chart; 56 from this home levelled at £152.75. From as far North as Stamfordham and Capheaton in Northumberland down through Durham, Yorkshire and this week as far South as Nottinghamshire the lamb vendors continue to enjoy the transparency of our auction system, we sincerely thank them all.
