Cast Cows – A lighter show forward, although trade was absolutely electric, with 2 completely new buyers ringside creating a red-hot atmosphere where a whole market average of almost 155ppk was the result. A top price of 218ppk was achieved for a young Limousin Heifer just over 30 months which made the almost 200 -mile round trip from Sheffield more than worth the time and effort for Mr S Wilde, Spite Winter House – his pair of young heifers sold to a more than healthy £1665 & £1515. The lead grossing cast beast was a monster of a Charolais Cow clocking the scales at 920kilos selling for 200ppk realising £1840, she was one of a trio consigned by Dromonby Bridge Farm which averaged a whopping 1025 kilos & £1749 per head. The dairy section of cows this week was topped at 180ppk & £1020 for a young Friesian Heifer consigned by Stainton Hill Farms, Streatlam with the lead grossing dairy cow forward by FS Sturrock & Sons, Home Farm selling to £1330. Cast Bulls very much in demand with the lead grossing price of £1528 going back to Teesdale Farmer JN Watson.

Store cattle – Once again the store ring was absolutely packed (socially distanced of course) resulting in a blistering trade for all types of cattle – the recent spell of dry weather saw demand for grazing cattle once again accelerate. Top of the tree for store cattle was H Walton Brass Castle who saw his pen of 4 strong Limousin Steers top the market at £1500 averaging £1405. RL Walker East High Wood topped the store bull section with a Homebred Limousin which sold for £1115, his trio of heifers which sold for a top price of £1355 resulting in an average of £1162 were just a small part of the quality on offer. The top price heifer on the day was an Aberdeen Angus consigned by G&JH Tomlinson & Son, Sunniside Farm which realised £1370. Many more cattle could be sold to vendor’s advantage.

Store Hoggs – As the Store Hogg season drifts away there was a mixed show of sheep forward from the very best to a few obvious sweepings up.  Mule Gimmer Hoggs forward by GS&SE Wilson, High House sold to £140 per head. A top price of £138 for a pair of Suffolks sold by A&B Herworth, Crake Scar set the bar high. A quality show of Hoggs from DE Stones, Hundah Farm saw his pen of Hoggs selling for a tasty £138. The Stones Family, Nuncote Nook were also in the running with their consignment of Hoggs averaging over £128 per head. A Few Breeding Sheep forward demand was once again exceptional –  in particular some Texel & Suffolk Ewes & Lambs consigned by M Radford, East Underhurth which went on to sell very well at £240. GS&SE Wilson, High House had forward a consignment of Mule Hoggs – In Lamb which sold to a top price of £168.
