Breeding Cattle – Huge credit must go to both Ian Bosworth of New Manor Farm, Rolleston and Ian Skidmore, North Hanging Wells, Eastgate as their respective dispersals aided a healthy ringside of buyers and a buoyant trade throughout. The New Manor herd dispersal began proceedings and the perfectly presented herd of predominantly British Limousin, British Blonde and Simmental crossed cows with British Blue and Blonde calves at foot impressed throughout, the top price of £2550 went to a sweet British Blue Heifer suckling 8 week old twin calves. Half a dozen further cows with calves from the Bosworth dispersal went on to sell beyond £2000, they were joined over £2000 by the pick of a run from P Donnelly, Great Ayton and also a beautiful British Blonde with her pure bred second calf at foot from J & C Barker, Hinderwell. The in calf cows look well sold, leading the charge was the best of the North Hanging Wells herd dispersal as a 4 year old British Blue cross sold for £1500, the scattering of stock bulls were a similar story as a powerful 5 year old Aberdeen Angus from the same good home topped the sale at £2500.

Cast Cattle & OTM – Another marvellous Monday in the DFAM cow ring, 20 years on from foot and mouth its hard to believe that the 120 over the bridge could average £1143; cows and OTM average today 160 pence per kilo and the blistering bull trade sees the baker’s dozen average a massive 177ppk. Ladies first, six over £1700 and five over 200 pence per kilo, the pick of both lists was an absolute stunner from F & R Simpson, Square House Farm, Quebec with a magical 6 year old British Blue selling for £1993 and 220ppk, a tasty trio from Square House averaged 205ppk and £1790. Next to the native girls and like their continental cousins they had quite some day; tops of 208ppk from G A Rogerson & Son, Thropton with a 37 month old Beef Shorthorn and a brut of an 8 year old Aberdeen Angus from W Chrystal & Partners, Wingate Grange added up to £1539. The dairy girls followed their normal procedure, arriving late but selling great, tops of a wonderful £1242 and 188ppk from Stainton Hill Farms, Streatlam. Bully’s special prizes keep on coming at the moment, another insane trade for the bulls who’s work days are behind them. Three bulls beyond 200 pence per kilo were all British Blue’s, a 7 year old from Fristling Hall Farm, Essex at 224 pence was joined twice by 4 & 6 year old’s from Ian Bosworth, Rolleston at 212ppk and 216ppk respectively. Four bulls entered the £2k plus club this week as two of the aforementioned Blues were narrowly beaten by a heavyweight Hereford from B & M J Garbutt, Busby, the winner however was a lovely Limousin from S E Chapman of Little Stainton when he ran the scale up to 1125kg and sold for £2205 and 196ppk. Shorthorn bulls to £1677, Red Poll bulls to £1651, Friesian bulls to £1615.
