Bulls – Oh the weather outside is frightful, but the bull trade is so delightful! – Unbelievable is probably the only way to describe today’s sale. A show of almost 80 Bulls saw almost half of them break the £2000 per head barrier and 14 reach the dizzy heights of £2200 and above, with 2 bulls going on to sell for over £2500, indeed one of the said bulls, a British Blue from R&M Paterson, Upper Auchenly was top of the market at an incredible 319ppk & £2523. Another border raider RM Adam & Son, Newhouse of Glamis managed to bag the top grossing price with a Limousin that sold for a magnificent £2564, both going to Worsleys Wholesale Meats. If the continental bulls had seen a lift, then the Friesians were sure to follow suit? And they didn’t disappoint with R Hall & Son, Kilton Hall selling his best black & white for 239ppk & £1450, although GW Dobson & Son, Wood Close beat everyone with his Friesian selling for a staggering £1751. A few natives forward, EW Grieves Oakdene fared best with an Angus selling for £1891, top ppk went to JA&M Boyes Ltd who had a trio of Herefords, the best one selling for 249ppk. Overall, a very pleasing day for all bull vendors, with the market average returning at almost 260ppk.
